Bengaluru, 21 August

A key witness in the ongoing sexual assault case against the ex-MP Prajwal Revanna has told the special court that she has been receiving threatening calls, and the court directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to prob the allegations.

During the cross-examination, the witness on Thursday told the court that she has been getting threatening calls from unknown people and expressed concern about her son. She also added that if something happened to them, the accused should be held accountable.

The Bengaluru special court directed the SIT to inquire and submit a report before the next hearing. The court also instructed the authorities to provide necessary protection to the witness.

The former MP of Janata Dal (Secular) and grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda was sentenced to life imprisonment in August 2025 for raping a 48-year-old woman who worked at his family’s farmhouse as a domestic worker. She alleged that Prajwal raped her twice between the years 2021 and 2024 and had also recorded it on his phone.

She lodged an FIR on 28 April 2024, just days after videos of Prajwal sexually abusing multiple women surfaced in the middle of elections. He escaped to Germany the same month and was arrested upon his arrival on 31 May, 2024.
